Cops promoted for foiling smuggling bid

ISLAMABAD: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Kaleem Imam on Saturday promoted two cops to head constables for foiling a bid to smuggle ammunition.

According to a press statement, the policemen had arrested Sikandar on Thursday at Faizabad for smuggling 900 rounds to Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Citizens, who collaborated in the police effort, were also awarded prizes at a ceremony attended by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Bin Yameen, DIG Headquarters Kamal-u-ddin Tipu and AIG Ahmed Mukaram.

The IGP noted on the occasion that public cooperation was vital for rooting out terrorism and the citizens assisting the police would be encouraged.

Three wardens dismissed: Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Dr Muhammad Akhtar Abbas has dismissed three traffic warden officers on charges of long absence from duty under Efficiency and Discipline Rules, a police spokesman said on Saturday.

The three officers are: Ahsan Zaib, Rizwan Shahid and Usman Haider. They remained absent from duty for a long time without informing their high-ups.
