CEC, Nawaz summoned in by-polls case

LAHORE: Justice Mian Saqib Nisar of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday issued notices to the chief election commissioner (CEC), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif and others on an application, challenging the process of calling fresh nomination papers from new candidates for by-election in NA-123 constituency. Mohammad Ilyas Gujjar, a contesting candidate from NA-123 Lahore, filed the application and made 56 new candidates respondents. He alleged that the notification allowing new candidates to file nomination papers was illegal and in excess of lawful jurisdiction. He said the process of nomination had already been completed. staff report
