Kashmiris to observe 62nd founding day of AJK govt today

MIRPUR: Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and around the world will celebrate the 62nd Foundation Day of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government today (Saturday), with a resolve to continue struggling for their right to self-determination.

The Foundation Day is observed every year to mark the establishment of the AJK government 62 years ago after the territory was liberated from India-backed Dogra rule.

The main ceremony would be held in the state’s capital, Muzaffarabad, chaired by newly-elected Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider. AJK President Raja Zulqarnain Khan will also attend the ceremony.

Special prayers would be held for the liberation of Indian-held Kashmir and peace and prosperity in Pakistan. Public and private organisations will hold rallies across AJK to commemorate the day.

Special seminars and symposia in all eight districts of AJK, including Muzaffarabad, would be the highlight of the celebrations. Through the seminars, the Kashmiris aim to convey to the world that their struggle would continue until they achieve freedom and the Indian forces end human rights violations in the region.

Regarding the celebrations scheduled for the day in Mirpur and across AJK, Deputy Commissioner Chaudhry Muhammad Tayyeb on Friday said special ceremonies would be held to celebrate the day with great enthusiasm and devotion. He said the Kashmiris would also renew their pledge to continue their struggle for freedom and make AJK a model welfare state. app
