673 suspects held in nationwide operations

LAHORE: Law-enforcement agencies have arrested 673 suspected militants during a clean-up operation across the country, a private TV channel reported on Wednesday.

According to the channel, police arrested 600 Afghan nationals, including 18 prayer leaders from Mardan. Mardan Division Deputy Inspector General Akhtar Ali Shah said the Afghan nationals had been sent to jail. He also said a grand operation against criminals in Mardan and Swabi would start from October 25.

Separately, security forces arrested 27 suspected militants in Kohat and shifted them to an undisclosed location for interrogation. They also arrested five members of the Taliban-e-Shura. The forces also raided the Railway Colony on a tip-off and arrested three members of the Swat Taliban. They also raided Darra Adam Khel and arrested two more members of Swat Taliban. The arrested have been shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

Meanwhile, Sindh police arrested 46 foreigners from the Sindh-Punjab border in Ghotki. Rangers’ officials said the arrested, including women and children, were mostly Afghan nationals.

Separately, Peshawar police arrested 41 Afghan nationals under 14-Foeign Act. Peshawar SSP (Operations) Karim Khan said police had intensified the crackdown against Afghan nationals and anti-state elements. He said 13 pistols, a Kalashnikov rifle and narcotics had been seized from them. daily times monitor/app
