SA congratulates Qaim for good show

KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly congratulated Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah for his efforts for getting all of the demands of the Sindh province regarding the new National Finance Corporation Award accepted.
Speaking on point of orders in response to the chief minister’s speech at the Sindh Assembly session on Wednesday major parliamentary parties, including the MQM and Opposition leadership appreciated the Qaim’s efforts. The CM had delivered a speech about outcome of his efforts regarding NFC meetings before leaving for Islamabad to meet President Asif Ali Zardari.
Speaking after the CM’s speech, opposition leader Jam Madad Ali congratulated Qaim and thanked President Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani for their efforts and interest in this regard. He hoped that all other pending issues would also be addressed and resolved in the same spirit.
Congratulating the CM Deputy Parliamentary Leader MQM Faisal Sabzwari said that it was an achievement for all the parties as attention has been paid to their voice. He said that the federation would be strengthened when provinces are made stronger.
Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said that the efforts of the CM should be appreciated, but at the same time sacrifice of the party leader, Benazir Bhutto should also be acknowledged that paved a way for obtaining such an achievement. Earlier, the CM informed the elected legislators that all the stakeholders including the federation and Punjab have accepted the Sindh government’s demands pertaining to the forthcoming NFC Award.
Qaim said the province could now collect the GST on services, including the telecommunication services, etc. According to him the Sindh government has also supported the Balochistan’s demand of accepting its right on Gas Development Surcharge.
Later, several MPAs raised different issues through point of orders. Sharjeel Inam Memon of the PPP said that some 40 percent candidates from Tharparkar who had appeared in physical tests for government jobs have been disqualified because Hepatitis-C was detected among them. He demanded the government to send special medical teams to the area for the treatment of the patients.
Provincial Minister for Information, Shazia Marri asked the speaker to restrain the media, especially TV channels from running the questions and answers documents until they are not presented and discussed in the assembly.
Dr Sikandar Mandhro of the PPP said that many ibexes died at the Khirthar National Park recently, and the government should take steps for diagnosing the disease and protection of others.
Faisal Sabzwari of the MQM protested against the Punjab government’s actions to stop the party activities in the province.
