Acceptance of Sindh’s demands a great victory: CM
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah Tuesday said today is the day of a great victory for Sindh as all our demands on which NFC Award will be based had been accepted in the NFC meeting held in Quetta. Addressing a crowded press conference on his return here from Quetta, the chief minister, escorted by opposition leader Jam Madad Ali, MQM Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed, ANP Leader Amir Nawab and Sindh Ministers Pir Mazharul Huq, Shazia Marri, Syed Murad Ali Shah, Dr Zulfikar Ali Mirza and Ayaz Soomro, said that our main demand, that is, a multi-criteria for NFC Award was accepted by all provinces including the Punjab. As per the multi-criteria, the award would be determined on the basis of population, poverty, backwardness and revenue generation. He said our demand that GST on Services should go to the provinces was also acceded to and so was our demand for considering revenue generation as criteria for determination of award, which is a “big achievement,” he added. He told a questioner that the federal government wanted to levy value added tax, but it has not yet been levied and we will talk to them on this issue. “It is a separate issue and has no relevance with the NFC,” he explained. The chief minister said that next meeting of the NFC would be held in Peshawar on October 25 where after the award is expected to be announced within one month. Shah said in the Quetta meeting the issue of gas development surcharge which was raised by Balochistan was also resolved whereby a formula was worked out under which that province will get higher amount than what it was getting now. app
