Afghan journalist welcomes US president’s Afghan policy
Staff Report
LAHORE: An Afghan journalist and South Asia Media Commission Senior President Farida Nekzad has welcomed the Obama administration’s stance towards Taliban.
Nekzad was representing Afghan women in the first regional conference of South Asian Women in Media (SAWM). Talking to Daily Times on Sunday, she said India was only helping the Afghans to reconstruct their educational institutions and offices besides supporting Hamid Karzai’s government in different ways.
Commenting on the role of Pakistan and Afghanistan in the ongoing situation, she said since both the countries faced common problems after the 9/11 attacks, therefore it was needed that both enhanced cooperation and avoided ‘blame game’.
She said former US president George Bush had adopted a wrong policy by starting an offensive in Afghanistan where many innocent lives had been lost.
She discarded the impression that Taliban had captured more than 18 provinces in Afghanistan. However, it was true, she said they had good influence in four to five Southern provinces including Ghazni, Orzagan, Nuristan and Khost.
Nekzad said the Taliban presence could not be ruled out across Afghanistan, including Kabul, but they were not getting support from the citizens.
To a query on Al Qaeda’s presence in Afghanistan, she said Al Qaeda militants were still staying along the Durand Line.
