President, PM congratulate army chief

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani have congratulated army chief Gen Ashfaq Kayani over the successful operation to rescue hostages from a security office in the General Headquarters compound. The president and the prime minister separately called the army chief over the telephone on Sunday. Zardari also conveyed his condolences to the families of security personnel killed in the operation. He said the operation was completed with a “minimum number of casualties” and hostages were saved, highlighting the army’s impeccable skillfulness. In a separate message to the army chief, the president said the entire nation stands behind its armed forces. The prime minister praised soldiers who participated in the operation and those who died. app
