ATC accepts bail plea of suspect in Danish embassy attack case
* Rejects acquittal pleas of Marriott attack case accused

RAWALPINDI: Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) No-I on Saturday accepted post arrest bail plea of Danish Embassy suicide attack case suspect and directed him to deposit Rs 0.1 million surety bond.
The court headed by Judge Malik Muhammad Akram Awan granted post arrest bail to Rao Shakir Ali son of Rao Nasir Ali, a resident of Quaid-e-Azam Colony, Rawalpindi.
Kohsar police had arrested him for his alleged involvement in Danish Embassy suicide attack, but police failed to provide sufficient evidence t in this regard. A suicide bomber blew his car outside the Danish embassy on June 2, 2008, killing eight people and injuring 30 others.
Marriott: Separately, the same court rejected the acquittal pleas of two suspects in Marriott Hotel bombing case and adjourned the hearing into the case till October 10. The suspects, Dr Muhammad Usman and Rana Ilyas filed two separate acquittal pleas under section 265-K.
After formal hearing into both applications, the court rejected their petitions.
A suicide bomber blew up a explosives-laden dumper at entrance of the Marriott Hotel on Sept 20, 2008 killing 54 people and injuring around 266.

The court headed by Judge Baqir Ali Rana is trying seven suspects including Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, Abdul Wajid, Mazhar Iqbal, Shahid Jamil Riaz, Hammad Amin Sadiq, Jamil Ahmed and Younus Anjum to ascertain their involvement in Mumbai attacks on November 26 to 28, 2008. The suspects are being tried in a special courtroom built in Adiala Jail. The suspects are accused of furtherance of common intention with their co-accused; terrorists abetted terrorist acts in Mumbai resulting in killing of many people besides destruction of the property.

RAWALPINDI: ATC No-I on Saturday adjourned hearing into former premier Benazir Bhutto murder case till October 3 on the fresh plea of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) seeking more time to investigate the case. The court headed by Judge Malik Muhammad Akram Awan is trying five suspects including Aitzaz Shah, Sher Zaman, Rafaqat Hussain, Hussnain Gull and Abdul Rasheed, in Adiala Jail to ascertain their involvement in the case. The investigation officer (IO) informed the court that FIA was interrogating the accused and sought more time for this purpose. Upon this, the court extended the judicial remand of the suspects and adjourned hearing till October 3. It may be mentioned here that in compliance with Interior Ministry directives, FIA formed a high level JIT to further investigate the case. The Director of Special Investigation Group of FIA is heading the JIT. Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in a gunshot-cum-bomb attack on December 27, 2007 outside Liaquat Bagh in the limits of City police station when she was leaving the place after addressing a public meeting as a part of her election campaign. staff report
