Massive power outage as fire erupts in Guddu power plant
LAHORE: The power supply to several parts of Sindh and Balochistan was suspended as the Guddu Thermal Power Station caught fire late on Thursday, a private TV channel reported. Quoting sources in the Jacobabad Electric Supply Corporation, the channel said electricity supply to 16 grid stations was suspended after fire erupted in unit-103 of the plant due to a technical fault. Firefighters put out the fire while the authorities had called in two helicopters for assistance, the channel said. According to the channel, the incident resulted in suspension of power supply to Kashmor, Kandhkot, Shikarpur, Thal, Jacobabad and Ghari Khero in Sindh and Jaffarabad, Naseerabad and Chattar Tamboh in Balochistan. Water and Power Development Authority sources claimed they would ensure the restoration of electricity supply within 48 hours, the channel added. daily times monitor
