Balochistan United slam 42 goals : Riffat is leading scorer of National Women’s Club Championship

Staff Report

LAHORE: Balochistan United’s fast-moving front-runner Riffat Mehdi once again proved her repute as the best player in Pakistan women’s soccer when she became the leading scorer of the ongoing 2nd National Women’s Football Club Championship on Wednesday. Her 21 goals, half of Balochistan United’s 42 in four matches, put her on top of all other players of 14 competing teams. She also broke record of Chiniot-born Shabana Kausar (WP Club) who slammed 15 goals in the first edition last year. Riffat now has the distinction of being the top scorer in National Championship as well as National Club Championship. She scored 22 goals in National Championship. The 23 matches of the ongoing event produced 124 goals of which Riffat’s share is 21. Riffat represented the Misbah Siddiqui-led Pakistan squad in the 3rd Amman International Women’s Futsal Championship in May 2006. She also has the honour of scoring the lone goal for Pakistan in international futsal arena. Despite a sharp-shooter, Riffat has yet to win a gold medal in national events. She won bronze medals in 2005 and 2006 in Islamabad.
