LAHORE: Pakistan is facing the challenge of creating active roles for women in the economic sphere, as the opportunities to create leadership for women entrepreneurs are manifold, participants in a conference on ‘Women Leadership’ said on Thursday.
The conference was organised by the Centre for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) at a local hotel.
On the occasion a book called “How to start a Business: A Guide For Women” was launched by CARE founder and Chairwoman Seema Aziz.
The speakers said the status of women in the rural areas should be uplifted, by developing skills in them to actualise their talent. They said value addition and a product’s demand in the market should be focused.
Pakistani women: Speaking on the occasion, Aziz said Pakistani women faced multiple challenges ranging from social taboos and conservatism to a lack of access to education and information. “All these severely inhibit the ability of women to develop the leadership and participation in the policy making process. Compounded with these are the non-existent institutions that are supposed to act as facilitators to networking, mentorship and learning opportunities for women,” she said. Her message to the women entrepreneurs was never to underestimate their capabilities, she added.
