Farmers being punished for voting for PML-Q, says Elahi

LAHORE: Calling the Punjab government’s target of procuring 6 million metric tonnes of wheat “a dream that cannot be fulfilled,” former Punjab chief minister Pervaiz Elahi accused the PML-N of “punishing the farmers” for voting for his PML-Q, a private TV channel reported. Addressing a press conference, he said the PML-N had an urban vote bank and was unaware of farmers’ problems, including the fertiliser and gunnysack shortage and the lack of infrastructure for the storage of wheat. He said PML-N ‘agents’ were buying wheat for Rs 100 less than the Rs 950 support price. Elahi warned of a serious wheat crisis in the coming months. staff report/daily times monitor
