‘Women, children most vulnerable to trafficking’
PESHAWAR: Participants of a two-day workshop on countering women’s trafficking on Sunday said women and children of the NWFP and the FATA were most vulnerable to trafficking.
The workshop aimed to strengthen the journalists’ capacity and enhance their knowledge on trafficking countering techniques.
Community Appraisal and Motivation Program (CAMP), which organised the workshop, urged government to remove flaws from the existing anti-human trafficking and human smuggling laws and empower law-enforcement agencies along with Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to prevent women and children’s trafficking. CAMP’s Programme Officer (Advocacy) Siad Afzal Shinwari highlighted the role of media in countering girls and children’s trafficking in the country. He said journalists had an important role in highlighting the violation of human rights and thus, it was necessary to brief and educate media persons on counter-human trafficking strategies. staff report
