24 honoured for their services, governor bestows civil awards
KARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, on behalf of President Asif Ali Zardari, bestowed civil awards on 24 personalities in a ceremony at the Governor’s House on Monday.
The ceremony was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Senior Minister for Education and Literacy Pir Mazharul Haq, Sindh Law Minister Muhammad Ayaz Soomro, senior civil and military officials and relatives of the people of received the awards.
Ibad bestowed eleven people with the Presidential Award for Pride of Performance, seven with Sitara-e-Imtiaz and six with Tamgah-e-Imtiaz. The relatives of posthumous nominees received the awards while Sindh Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman read the citations.
Those who were given Sitara-e-Imtiaz were Shafi Muhammad Shah (acting), Shaharyar Arshad (yachting) and Khalid Tawwab, Abdul Haseeb Khan, SM Naseer, Aftab Ahmed Lodhi, Sister Merry Emily (social services).
Those who received presidential award for Pride of Performance were Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal (chemistry), Behroz Sabzwari (acting), Obaidullah Baig (comparing), Khalifa Muhammad Irshad Baig (woodwork), Sahab Dinno Mallah (handicrafts), Naseem Sultan (embroidery), Ghaus Baksh Brohi (flute-playing), Dr Muhammad Aslam Farukhi (literature), Ahmed Shah alias Ustad Bukhari (poetry), Muhammad Faizan (mountaineering) and Rohina Malik (calligraphy).
Those who received Tamgha-e-Imtiaz were Jamil Memon (dairy farming), Humaira Channa (singing) and Asad Muhmmad Khan (literature), Anwar Pirzado (literature), Dr Sahar Imdad Hussaini (literature) and Mirza Ikhtiar Baig (social services). ppi
