Mullen says US concerned over terrorist safe havens in Pakistan

WASHINGTON: There is a continuing concern in the US over the existence of terrorist safe haven in Pakistan, US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Michael Mullen said in an interview aired on Sunday. “That [concern] has to be addressed, has been addressed and needs to continue to be addressed,” Mullen told Fox News. He declined to comment on Sunday’s drone strikes on a suspected Taliban compound in South Waziristan. US Defence Secretary Robert Gates also declined to discuss possible missile strikes when asked about covert action possibly fomenting turmoil in Pakistan. “Well, I’m not going to get into any intelligence operations,” Gates told NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’. agencies
