Faith healer killed near Peshawar
PESHAWAR: Unidentified gunmen killed a faith healer within the limits of Yakatoot Police Station on Tuesday, police said.
An official of Yakatoot Police Station told Daily Times that an unidentified gunman knocked on the door of Agha Ji Phool Badshah Bukhari alias Syed Gul Badshah and shot him dead. Sources said that Badshah had earlier received threats to stop his charms and amulets business. Local police, however, expressed ignorance about any threats to the faith healer.
Attacks on faith healers, commonly known as pirs, have been on the rise since December 18, 2008, when suspected Taliban exploded two bombs at the shrine of Abdul Shakoor Malang Baba on GT Road. The blast damaged the minarets, walls and doors of the shrine.
Recently, suspected Taliban blew up a shop belonging to another faith healer, Pir Naiz Ali Shah, on Circular Road on January 20. The beheaded body of another pir, Rafiullah, was recovered from Mattani area on January 17.
