Pakistan ski team to participate in 2010 Winter Olympics

ISLAMABAD: An 8-member Pakistan squad will leave for Austria on January 18 to undergo a nine-week training for the Winter Olympics to be held in Vancouver, Canada in 2010. Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Pakistan Ski Federation (PSF) president Shahid Lateef said the federation would be sending Pakistan players for participation in Winter Olympics 2010 for the first time in the history of the country. “We are sending our players to Austria to compete in the skiing events there to attain the required 120 points for the qualification for the Olympics 2010,” added Lateef. He said that besides participating in the competitions in Austria, the national players would also get training in the Austrian skiing academy. Briefing about the national events, he said the PSF had planned a championship for children and women with the name of Saadia Khan Ski Cup from January 20 to 31. “While Shah Khan Ski Cup, Chairman JCSC Ski Championship and 17th National Ski Championship will be held at Naltar from February 8 to 15 for men,” he concluded.
