One killed, 5 injured in Sui blast

QUETTA: A remote-controlled bomb planted on a motorcycle killed a pedestrian and wounded five others on Sunday in a market in Sui, Balochistan, police said.

An ethnic Baloch nationalist group has claimed responsibility for the blast. Police officer Abdul Majid Dasti said that two of the wounded were seriously injured. In a phone call to reporters, Balochistan Republican Army spokesman Sarbaz Baloch said the group was behind the attack. He claimed the explosion killed an opponent of the movement, but police would not confirm that, the Associated Press reported.

However, AFP news agency reported that a militant group, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), had claimed responsibility for the blast. “We carried out the motorcycle bombing and the target was a tribal notable who betrayed the Baloch nation,” BLA spokesman Beeburg Baloch told AFP by telephone. Separately, a tribesman was killed when he stepped on a landmine planted by militants in the neighbouring Naseerabad district. agencies
