Nawaz and Boucher discuss war against terrorism

* PML-N chief says US should respect parliament’s policy decision
* Boucher underlines need for enhanced co-operation

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif and visiting United States Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher discussed the US-led war on terror and Pakistan’s role in it during a meeting on Monday.

Nawaz said the US should accept whatever policy Pakistan’s parliament formed on the war on terror, sources privy to the meeting told Daily Times. They said he expressed concern over US policies pertaining to the war and its violations of Pakistan’s territorial sovereignty, and told Boucher the war could not be won without support from the people. He asked the US to review its policy and resolve all conflicts through dialogue.

Boucher underlined the need for enhanced co-operation between the US and Pakistan to eliminate terrorism, the sources said. He acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in the war on terror and reiterated his government’s support for democracy in Pakistan.

PML-N leaders Nisar Ali Khan, Khawaja Asif and Ahsan Iqbal, and US Ambassador to Pakistan Anne W Patterson accompanied the two leaders in the meeting at Punjab House.
