Sharifs’ case adjourned

RAWALPINDI: An accountability court on Thursday indefinitely adjourned hearing into the Ittefaq Foundry, Hudaibiya Paper Mills and Raiwind corruption references against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Deputy Prosecutor General Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhutto had moved an application to reopen the cases on July 31, 2007. Accountability Court No-IV Judge Khalid Mehmood adjourned the references sine die, as the application for reopening the three cases against the Sharif brothers had not been signed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman. In the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case filed with the Attock Accountability Court on March 27, 2000, Nawaz and Shahbaz have been named as the main accused. Nawaz and his mother, Shamim Akhtar, are the main accused in the Raiwind corruption reference and face charges of accumulating money and assets beyond their declared means of income through the misuse of authority. staff report
