President has no political future: Taseer

LAHORE: President Pervez Musharraf has no political future, Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer told a satellite channel on Monday.

In an interview with Channel-5, Taseer said parliament will decide about the future of the executive’s head. The parliament should decide about the president’s impeachment and the sacked judges’ reinstatement, he said, adding that the use of Article 58 (2b) was not possible now.

The country needs the politics of reconciliation, Taseer said, adding that contesting election was not a pre-condition to be called a politician.

He said that the opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly should be immediately appointed. He said there are several prominent leaders in the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid, and that he had never said that the party existed no more. Terming the lawyers’ movement as “a dead horse”, Taseer said there were more people at the Urs of Sufi saint Waris Shah than in the lawyers’ long march.

He said that PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif would not be the chief minister if being a governor he had not accepted resignation of Dost Muhammad Khosa. daily times monitor
