Govt action justified if state writ challenged, TNSM shura

PESHAWAR: The Government of Pakistan would be justified in taking action against those challenging the writ of the state, agreed the government and the Tehreek Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi (TNSM) Shura (council) in a jirga held recently. The jirga also led to the release of TNSM chief Sufi Muhammad.
The government was represented at the jirga by Awami National Party Provincial President Afrasiab Khattak and provincial ministers Bashir Ahmed Bilour, Rahim Dad Khan, and Wajid Ali Khan. Maulana Muhammad Alam, Maulana Abdul Haq, Maulana Badshah Zeb and Maulana Sami Ullah were among those representing the TNSM at the jirga.
The participants of the jirga were able to agree on the following points:
n Every Muslim has the right to launch a peaceful struggle for the implementation of Shariat-e-Muhammadi
n The TNSM holds the government and the state institutions in high esteem and desires peace in the North Western Frontier Province in general and Malakand Division in particular.
n The TNSM condemns attacks on the government personnel and infrastructure.
n The TNSM proposes mutual consultation and dialogue for the enforcement of Shariah law.
n All segments of society should co-operate with the government in its efforts to establish of its writ and restore peace in the country.
n The TNSM is committed to co-operating with the provincial government, government institutions and the local administration for the implementation of a durable and lasting peace, and the protection of life and property of common citizens.
