LAHORE: Intelligence agencies are searching for two students of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) who were being interrogated at the time of the suicide attack on the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) headquarters on March 11, sources told Daily Times on Sunday.
The two students escaped soon after the blast rocked the building, sources said, adding that law enforcement personnel had arrested three UET students after “confirmed information of them having strong links with militants”. The students were being interrogated in connection with the March 4 suicide attacks at the Navy War College (NWC).
The sources said that after the NWC blasts, law enforcement agencies had arrested many suspects from various parts of the province, including 35 from Lahore. They said the UET students were being kept at the FIA sub-office in Model Town, which was also targeted on March 11, though it remained safe due to a mistake by the attackers.
The students were shifted to the FIA headquarters on Temple Road on March 10, a day before the attack on the building, sources said, adding that the students were interrogated all through the night and the investigators of the NWC blasts case had decided to continue interrogating them the next day (March 11). However, before they could begin the interrogation the next day, terrorists attacked the building in a pick-up truck full of explosives. The explosion rocked the entire building and also damaged the lockups. Sources said that during the confusion, the two students, Hamadullah and Athar, escaped. They said that the two students were still missing and intelligence agencies were searching for them all over the country.
