Amin Fahim says he is candidate for PM

* Ahmed Mukhtar says Fahim was never offered premiership

Daily Times Monitor

LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Vice Chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim said on Friday that he was the candidate for prime minister, but PPP MNA-elect Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, another frontrunner for premiership, said Fahim was never offered the office.

In a programme Kaun Banay Ga Wazir-e-Azam? (Who will be the prime minister?) on Geo News television channel, Fahim said the prime minister should be from Sindh and he was a candidate for the slot. He said he was a senior member of the party and slain PPP chairwoman Benazir Bhutto and PPP Co-chairman Asif Zardari had offered him the office.

Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar insisted that the prime minister should be from Punjab. He said he was a senior party member too, and his family had been associated with the Bhutto family since 1967. He denied that Fahim had ever been offered the office of prime minister.

Mukhtar is from Gujrat, where he defeated Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain in the February 18 elections.
