Dec 27, 28 compensation package soon: City Nazim
KARACHI: Karachi Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal said that the federal and provincial governments are quite serious about compensating those who were affected during the violence on December 27 and 28, and a relief package will be announced soon.
During an informal chat with journalists at his office on Monday, Kamal questioned why the civil society, lawyers and media are silent about the worst destruction in Karachi’s history - people being burnt alive, looting and plundering and burning of hundreds of vehicles - and asked why those involved were not being pinpointed.
He said that a regretful aspect of this tragic episode is that certain circles are creating propaganda as to where the police and rangers were when the rioters were playing havoc in the city.
He claimed that during certain past incidents, the civil society, media and lawyers created one-sided propaganda, while so-called analysts and intellectuals of the country kept airing their views on Karachi’s situation even though they were unaware as to what had happened here.
“We have marketed Karachi for the last two years and we lured foreign investors here. Now those investors are going back after seeing factories being burnt and the destructive conditions,” he said while questioning who was responsible for all this. app
