Militants destroy five levies pickets in Bajaur

KHAR: Militants blew up five levies pickets in Bajaur Agency on Thursday, officials said.

“Unidentified militants blew up five levies pickets in Khyber, Tangi, Tarakai, Kar and Kohi with improvised explosive devices, but there were no casualties,” an official said.

Meanwhile, commander of the local militants, Waliur Rehman, has warned that they would punish anyone doing illegal activities in the name of the militants. “Our main objective is to promote Islam and the imposition of Shariah,” a statement issued by Rehman said.

Violence has escalated across Pakistan since July, when militants scrapped a peace deal and the army raided a radical mosque in Islamabad. Officials suspect Islamist militants were behind the worst blast in Pakistan’s 60-year history, when at least 139 people were killed in Karachi last week in a suicide attack on a procession led by former prime minister Benazir Bhutto on her return from eight years of self-imposed exile. staff report
