Tussle over mosque in G-Block Model Town: Application filed against registration of committee
Staff Report
LAHORE: The District Industries Department has received an application asking it to not register the Anjuman-e-Jamia Mubarak Mosque under the Societies Act 1860.
Two parties are in a tussle over the administrative control of Mubarak Mosque in G-Block Model Town. One party – consisting of people who pray at the mosque – wants the mosque to be given to the Islamic Trust Model Town, while the other party – who claims that the mosque belongs to them – wants to form a committee called the Anjuman-e-Jamia Mubarak Mosque so that the mosque can be given to it.
The first party filed the application and asked the department not to register the committee till the two parties resolved the issue.
A department official told Daily Times on Tuesday that the District Industries Department had received an application from one of the parties. “The application claims that the first party is trying to resolve the issue through negotiations with the other party,” he added.
The application stated that after resolving the issue through negotiations, a list of candidates would be sent to the department and to government officials concerned in order to form a committee or to hand over the mosque into the Islamic Trust Model Town’s administrative control, he added.
District Officer (Industries) Qazi Anwar Zahoor said the department had received an application requesting it not to register any committee for the mosque. He said that earlier they had received a police report on the issue. “The issue will be resolved according to the law,” he added.
