Pakistan Navy commissions PNS Zarrar
KARACHI: Pakistan Navy Ship Zarrar, the first of Multi-Role Tactical Platform (MRTP-33), was commissioned into Pakistan Navy at a ceremony at PN Dockyard on Monday.
The attack craft acquired from Turkey would be fitted with requisite guns and missiles commensurate with its role of coastal defence and offensive operations, says an Inter Services Public Relations (Navy) press release.
Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir, who was also the chief guest, praised the induction of the new ship into Pakistan’s naval fleet.
The naval chief said acquisition of the ship demonstrated sound and long-lasting historic relations between the two countries. He praised the builder yard Yonca-Onuk JV for accomplishing the task in time while maintaining high quality standards. He said the construction of the Gwadar deep-sea port, Coastal Highway and several mega projects related to ship construction and ports refurbishment would step up economic activities in the country’s coastal areas, increasing Pakistan Navy’s commitment to provide seaward defence for the national assets.
Rear Admiral Azhar Shamim told that several modifications in the boat’s internal design were made to suit Pakistan Navy’s requirements. He also announced the commissioning of a second vessel of the series in the first quarter of 2008. app
