Qayyum banned from entering LBA for life
LAHORE: The Lahore Bar Association (LBA) has banned for life the attorney general of Pakistan Malik Muhammad Qayyum from entering the bar premises. Through a resolution on Monday, an LBA meeting unanimously decided that the bar would cancel the membership of those lawyers who appeared in the courts of judges who took oath under the PCO. The LBA passed another resolution, denouncing the amendments in the Legal Practitioner and Bar Councils Act and curbs on the media. The meeting demanded the immediate release of Aitzaz Ahsan, Ali Ahmad Kurd, Justice (r) Tariq Mehmood and other detained lawyers. The bar also carried a unanimous resolution against the entry of the police on the bar’s premises. The meeting was presided over by LBA president Syed Muhammad Shah.
LHCBA cancels Malik Qayyum’s membership: The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has cancelled the bar membership of Attorney General of Pakistan Malik Muhammad Qayyum. The LHCBA, in a general house meeting, on Monday rejected the proposed amendments in the Legal Parishioners and Bar Councils Act and called it an illegal act by the government with the connivance of the attorney general. The bar said the unconstitutional attorney should not be graced to be an LHCBA member. staff report
