Jennifer is Glamour woman of the year

Glamour magazine honoured its women of the year at a star-studded ceremony at Lincoln Centre.

Jennifer Connelly’s dress was a fabulous color while the first ever Girl of the Year, Abigail Breslin’s looked perfectly appropriate. Mariah performed for the big event while some of TV’s finest doctors, Taye and Eric Dane (and Chief), were among the men out to honour all these fabulous ladies.

The issue’s cover girl Jennifer Garner celebrated her night off from Broadway and pulled off a dress that most women could not, but didn’t walk the red carpet with Ben. In the magazine Jennifer talks about why that is. She said: “We’ve worked really hard not to be one of those couples who are constantly in the limelight.”

Because the event was all about praising women for being leaders in their respective fields, we asked those attending just how risky they are, for real:

Author Toni Morrison, 76, admitted she’s no daredevil: “No. I’m careful, in everything but writing.” Elizabeth Edwards, 58, honoured for being a role model and accompanied by her kids Catharine, Emma Claire and Jack, was radiant despite her cancer diagnosis: “I think I’m reasonably cautious. But when there’s something you really believe in, or there’s something you really want to add to your life — we wanted to add children to our life — you have to be willing to take that risk. I feel great.”

Shonda Rhimes, 37, the creator of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, was honoured for being a hit maker: “I think I’m the girl who sat in the front of the room and got straight A’s and raised her hand whenever the teacher called on her, so I’m not that much of a risk taker.”

Eric Dane, 34, who plays Mark ‘Dr McSteamy’ Sloan on Grey’s, was there to present the award to Rhimes, “I’m a little bit of a risk taker and a thinker at the same time. I’m analytical.” agencies
