Pakistan seeks gas reservoir report from Turkmenistan

Islamabad: Pakistan has asked Turkmenistan to submit a detailed report about the existing gas reservoirs before entering into agreement of proposed $4 billion Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) project.
Though Turkmenistan claims to have gas reserves of 159 trillion cubic feet (tcf) at its Dauletabad fields.
According to an official of Petroleum Ministry, Pakistan wants to import 15 million standard cubic meters per day of gas through the pipeline in the first year but the final decision would be made in view of the detailed report submitted to the government of Pakistan,” adding that 34.26 trillion cubic feet (tcf) would be utilised for the project.
Sources from ministry said that Pakistan hopefully would receive the report about the gas reservoirs of Turkmenistan and that report would also be discussed in the meeting of
Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) gas pipeline project, to be held here in Islamabad next month. However the date has not been finalised to hold the meeting in Islamabad.
After being staying away from the Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline project, India is taking interest to participate. “Though India, reportedly under pressure from the US to scrap the Iran gas pipeline project and has stayed away from the Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project talks,” a high level official in Foreign office said. He said that India is taking interest in TAP project in response of IPI project talks, which he did not join and its participation would be confirmed on Friday (today).
