Petrol pumps, CNG stations suffer losses

KARACHI: The owners of petroleum pumps and Compressed Natural Gas CNG) filling stations suffered huge losses as the sale of various fuels came almost to a halt during the last three days in Sindh.

Petroleum dealers and CNG retailers closed their pumps following the deteriorating law and order condition in the major cities of province following bombing incident in Karachi.

Most of the 300 petrol pumps in the metropolis were closed for last two days, owners told Daily Times. They said that about 250 fuel stations were remained open on Saturday’ afternoon but some 30 percent stations were remained closed in some part of the city.

They estimated that around Rs 150 million cost fuel have been not sold in Karachi owing to the closure of petrol pumps and CNG filling stations during the last three days. They added the petrol and CNG sale declined since second day of Eid.

Chairman All Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association Abdul Sami Khan said petroleum dealers were forcibly shut their pumps by agitating peoples while the government remained tightened-lipped to provide safety to petroleum dealers.

In Sindh, around 200 petrol pumps and CNG filling station have been shut completely in Nawabshah, Hyderabad and Sukker during the last three days. Owners told that petrol pumps and CNG filling stations would also be closed in these cities of Sindh. Mr Khan told that majority of the petrol pumps is facing supply shortage of petrol and diesel as the transpiration of oil tankers have stopped completely to the country from port terminals adding that fuel stations would face further losses if the supply is not restored, and the public could suffer from this.
