Salvation Army chief’s murder: Five policemen suspended over suspect’s escape from custody
LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Malik Muhammad Iqbal suspended five police officials including Civil Lines investigation in charge over Younis Joseph’s escape from their custody. Joseph was nominated in the murder case of Bo Brekke, the Salvation Army (SA) territorial commander. One of the investigators of the case said Joseph had not been ‘arrested properly’, no action could be taken against the officials. The suspended officials include Civil Lines investigation in charge Inspector Nazar Abbas, assistant sub-inspector Muhammad Ashiq, naib muharrar Liaqat Ali and constables Zahid Hanif and Muhammad Ashraf. He said evidence showed that Joseph stole a set of the SA Headquarters’ keys from Major Peter’s office. He said that the police believed that the way Bo Brekke was murdered showed that it was an ‘inside job’. Police sources confirmed that the complainant Major Peter had left the country along with his wife. The investigator, however, said that Peter’s departure to London was planned earlier and he (Peter) would inform the police on Tuesday (today) about his return. Bo Brekke’s body is still lying at the city morgue and will be handed over to his family tomorrow (Wednesday) after autopsy. Bo Brekke (45), a Norwegian national, was found dead at SA Headquarters on September 27. He had been shot in the head twice. Civil Lines police had registered a case on the complaint of TSA employee, Major Peter, who nominated Major Mark Younis Joseph as the accused. shahnawaz khan
