ISLAMABAD: A high-level parliamentary delegation of NATO countries will embark on a four-day official visit to Islamabad on March 14, to discuss the situation in Afghanistan with Pakistani authorities.
At a press conference here at Parliament House on Tuesday, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Mushahid Hussain Sayed said the delegation would meet President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and chairmen of the Senate and National Assembly’s foreign relations committees. He said details of the delegation’s programme were yet to be received.
Mushahid proposed the establishment of a ‘Mazloom’ foundation, with a Rs 100 million relief fund, to facilitate the oppressed and down-trodden people of the country.
He also called for the establishment of a separate human rights ministry and the appointment of a cultural ambassador to the Foreign Affairs Ministry to promote a soft image of Pakistan.
He proposed that the government broadcast proceedings of all standing committees of parliament.
