Sculptures show opens at Rohtas Gallery

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: An exhibition featuring images made from plastic bags began at the Rohtas Gallery here on Tuesday.

The exhibition titled ‘I Love You’ displayed some of US-based artist Khalil Chishti’s recent work. All circumstances and events signified the remarkable use of one weapon.

“The gun symbolises the world. You can kill someone either by a gun or by love,” said Khalil. He said that wandering in the newly inhabited cities of California, he had noticed a striking similarity between them and the civilisations of Mohenjodoro and Harappa. “I felt as if terracotta had taken the form of plastic and as if we were still living in an extension of the lost civilisations,” he said While describing the reason for choosing plastic bags as a medium of art, he said that he found a marked similarity between human beings and plastic. “Both are disposable in one hand and immortal on the other.”

“Despite so many mind blowing scientific discoveries, we are still psychologically victimised by the same doubts that swallowed us centuries ago. However, we lost many battles confronting them,” said Khalil.
