Water shortage in Rawalpindi Cantt areas worsening
RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Cantonment areas have been facing an acute water shortage for the last 15 days. Residents have been forced to purchase water tankers at a cost of Rs 700 each.
The worst affected areas include Nasirabad, Allahabad, Westridge, Ilyas Colony, Officer Colony, Misreal, Dhok Gujran, Mohala Zamindaran and Peshawar Road. To clean the Sangjani water channel, the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board stopped the water supply but it has not restored it until now. Corrupt public officials are charging Rs 700 per water tanker while the official rate is Rs 300.
The Chaklala and Rawalpindi Cantonment Boards have failed to supply sufficient water to the people. More than half of the tube wells in the city are out of order due to which residents of different localities are facing problems in obtaining water.
Local residents compared the situation with ‘Karbala’ and demanded that authorities concerned take serious notice of the issue, or they would be forced to stage demonstrations. nni
