LHC gives bail to ‘honour killer’
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday granted bail to Nazar Muhammad who had allegedly murdered his daughter and her lover on seeing them having sex.
Allowing bail, the court observed that the complainant had mentioned in the first information report that his son Azam had an affair with Nazar’s daughter Zahida Parveen, which demonstrated that Azam was responsible for his own death. The court also observed that the alleged occurrence took place in Nazar’s house and secondly the challan of the case had not been submitted to a trial court for two years. The prosecution alleged that Nazar gunned down Azam and Zahida when they were having sex in his house.
—rejects alleged murderer’s bail application: The Lahore High Court on Monday rejected a bail application by Muneeza Saleem, alleged to have murdered her daughter-in-law. Ifrah Zubair was taken to Zubaida Memorial Hospital on December 5, 2005, where she was pronounced dead. A postmortem showed she was strangled to death.
Ifrah’s father Mohammad Arif accused Muzeeza, her husband Mohammad Saleem, son Zubair and daughters Sania and Anum of killing his daughter. “My daughter’s in-laws killed her because Zubair and Ifrah had developed differences,” he alleged. He registered a case against the accused, but only Muneeza was arrested and given in judicial custody. The other accused had fled. An additional sessions judge had earlier rejected Muneeza’s bail. She then submitted a bail application to the LHC, saying the police investigation was incomplete and a challan had not been submitted against her.
Arif’s counsel, Khurram Latif Khosa, said the prosecution should not be blamed for the police failing to finish the investigation and submit a challan. “The accused is charged with a heinous crime and should not be given any concessions,” he said. The court rejected Muneeza’s bail application after hearing both parties.
Arguments on petition against Musharraf not submitted: The arguments on the maintainability of a constitutional petition against President General Pervez Musharraf holding two offices were not submitted on Monday because Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Justice Mohammad Akhtar Shabbir was on leave. The LHC’s office had said the petition could not be maintained, and forwarded it as an objection case to the court. staff report
