Pakistan, ADB sign $7m grant assistance pacts
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Tuesday signed two grant assistance agreements worth $7 million.
ADB Resident Representative Peter Fedon, Agriculture Secretary Ismail Qureshi and Economic Affairs Secretary Khalid Saeed signed the agreements. The government of Pakistan and the ADB signed the letter of agreement for grant support of $5 million to 8,000 poor and vulnerable households headed by women and the disabled in largely inaccessible areas devastated by last year’s earthquake.
The $5 million grant from the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction (JFPR) financed by the government of Japan would help quake-affected households rebuild their livelihood. The project is designed to deliver urgently-needed agricultural and livestock supplies to quake-hit people, enable them to participate in income generation activities and eliminate dependence on aid. staff report
