Disaster relief group to continue helping earthquake victims

Staff Report

LAHORE: The Disaster Relief Management Society has decided to continue financially assisting the earthquake victims, with 1,000 families being helped for a year while another 1,000 families will be helped soon.

The board of directors of the society made the decision at CM’s Secretariat on Saturday. Pakistan Muslim League President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain chaired the meeting.

Shujaat briefed the meeting about the financial assistance being provided to the earthquake victims, saying the present government was taking care of their needs and making efforts to provide education to them. He said the government in collaboration with Al Nahyan Trust was setting up a school for children in the quake-hit areas.

He said the institution would be of good standard and would provide students with free education, boarding and lodging. He said teachers would hold foreign degrees. He said the institution would give priority to orphans during admission.

Shujaat said the government was taking steps to make the financial assistance system more transparent and would provide all details on the Disaster Relief Management Society website.
