SDPI seminar on integrated thinking

ISLAMABAD: A two day international workshop on `Introducing the concept of Integrated Assessment in Pakistan’ will start today (Monday) under the aegis of Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI).

“Through this United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) sponsored workshop, we aim to introduce the concept of integrated assessment and highlight the utility of such an approach in Pakistan’s policy making,” an SDPI press release said. Integrated assessment acts as a tool for integrating economic, social, and environmental concerns within a single policy formulation. While many African and South American countries have already embarked on this path, courtesy of UNEP-funded initiatives, the concept by and large, remains alien to Pakistan, said the release. The use of integrated assessment will be especially beneficial to trade policies, in the context of Pakistan-India trade liberalisation and will be of special importance to the workshop discussion. staff report
