Health Ministry declares 109 bird flu tests ‘negative’
* Five more pharmaceutical companies asked to prepare bird flu vaccines
ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Health announced on Saturday that all 109 samples collected from people living in and around 18 poultry farms in the NWFP, Punjab and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) had tested negative for the virus. The samples were collected from four poultry farms of Punjab, two NWFP farms and 12 ICT farms, APP reported.
The ministry also confirmed that all the suspected people who were hospitalised in the isolation wards had been tested negative by the National Institute of Health and were discharged from the hospitals.
Online adds: Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health allowed five more pharmaceutical companies to prepare bird flu vaccines. The government had not only imported medicine for bird flu virus but also issued licenses to six companies for the preparation of vaccine at local level. The numbers of companies to prepare vaccines at local level has now increased to 11, out of which many companies don not have any experience in the vaccines preparation or any other life saving drug.
The companies which were issued licenses included M/s Werrick Pharmaceuticals, Islamabad, M/s Wilshire Laboratories, Lahore, M/s Amson Vaccines and Pharma (Pvt) Ltd, Islamabad, M/s Feroz Sons, Nowshera, M/s Atco Laboratories, Karachi, M/s Hilton Pharmaceuticals, Karachi, and M/s Roche Pakistan, Karachi, M/s Mediate (Pvt) Ltd, Karach, M/s Medara, Islamabad, M/s Tagma, Lahore, and M/s Rakaposhi, Peshawar.
