‘US-India N-deal should not threaten Pakistan, China’
By Iftikhar Gilani
NEW DELHI: Indian National Security Advisor MK Narayanan has told Pakistan and China not to feel concerned about the India-US nuclear deal, since it is limited to civilian use and does not alter India’s strategic nuclear capabilities.
“The strategic part is unaffected, whether we are in it (nuclear deal) or not. So neither China nor Pakistan has any reason to feel more concerned,” Narayanan said in an interview to the ‘Week’ magazine.
He also dismissed talks of the Americans using India to contain China. No American leader had spoken “in such terms” during President George W Bush’s visit this month to India, he affirmed. “President Bush did not raise this issue even once. Nor has (US National Security Advisor Stephen) Hadley or Condoleezza Rice. We are certainly not involved in any game of containing China or Pakistan,” Narayanan added.
