No relief activities initiated in Neelum Valley so far
MUZAFFARABAD: The relief activities have not been initiated in the Neelum Valley even after two months of the earthquake and President Pervez Musharraf should take note of this negligence, said Sahibzada Ishaq Zafar, the Pakistan People’s Party AJK president, on Saturday. He said for one and a half month the Neelum Road remained closed and the local residents had no option but to eat boiled wheat and corns, but even after the opening of the main road, relief activities were not initiated. The government should also build shelter homes in the remote areas, he said. online
0.6 million quake survivors immunised
ISLAMABAD: Almost 0.6 million survivors have been immunised in a bid to protect them from measles and tetanus, said Muhammad Naseer Khan, the health minister. Complete medical care, including injections, medicines, was being provided to the pneumonia patients in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund and the World Health Organisation, he told the BBC. He said several teams were dispensing supplements of vitamin A to the survivors. app
Rehabilitation of special people at top of agenda
ISLAMABAD: The Social Welfare and Special Education Ministry, the government and international and local organisations are engaged in providing special education, vocational training and treatment to special people, said Zobaida Jalal, the federal minister for social welfare and special education, on Saturday. In a message to mark the International Day of Disabled Persons, Zobaida said over 55 special education centres and vocational training institutes nationwide were providing services to disabled people. Civil society and social organisations should help in the rehabilitation of disabled people to improve their quality of life and to make them productive citizens. app
Govt should take action against Imran for his anti-army remarks
NEW YORK: Action should be taken against Imran Khan, the Tehreek-e-Insaf president, for his anti-army remarks, said Humayun Akhtar Khan¸ the federal trade minister. During his visit to the US, Humayun said the army was protector of geographical boundaries of the country, therefore, nobody should be allowed to openly degrade it. online
