PTI stops political activity for now
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would have appeared as a major political force in the next general elections but it has suspended all political activities because of the October 8 earthquake on party president Imran Khan’s direction, PTI leaders said in a press conference on Thursday.
They said the party was focusing on earthquake victims’ rescue and rehabilitation and the service would continue until normalisation.
The leaders asked philanthropists to help the PTI and other nongovernment organisations because snowfall had begun in the earthquake-hit areas and the earthquake victims needed shelter. They said the PTI had constructed three models of shelters homes and philanthropists could provide funds for any of them. Talking about the reorganisation of PTI’s Lahore chapter, PTI Punjab President Admiral (r) Javed Iqbal said Muhammad Sarwar had been made the president, Shabbir Siyal the senior vice president, Salman Sheikh the vice president and Jamshed Butt had been made the general secretary.
The new team said they had confidence in Imran Khan’s leadership and would follow the party’s manifesto. staff report
