Traders donate Rs 8.4b for quake relief
ISLAMABAD: The Cabinet Committee on Fund Raising from Business Community for Earthquake Relief has received more than Rs 8.4 billion from business groups for earthquake relief while the remaining business groups contacted by the committee are in the process of responding.
D Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Federal Minister of Privatization & Investment, who is also Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on domestic fund raising from the business groups, constituted by the prime minister, said at a ceremony held for receiving a consignment of winterize tents for the earthquake victims of Azad Jammu & Kashmir and the NWFP areas here Saturday.
Dr Georg Wachtel, General Manager OMV Pakistan, handed over a consignment of 20 winterize tents to Dr Shaikh each having heating facility and the capacity to accommodate eight persons.
The winterize tents with heating stove and allied fixture cost $2,000 each. OMV Austria had already dispatched 40 such tents to the affected areas in addition to cash contribution of $ 0.5 million to the President’s Relief Fund, Dr Georg Wachtel informed the minister.
The minister appreciated the concern of OMV Austria for their support for the affected people and said it would set a good example for timely and required help and urged others not to make unnecessary delay in their contributions in cash and kind as the advent of winter was a big threat to the victims. staff report
