Canadian HC meets FPCCI members

Staff Report

KARACHI: David B Collins, Canadian high commissioner in Pakistan asked Pakistan’s textile exporters to do intensive marketing in Canada.

Talking to president and members of Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Thursday the high commissioner said Export Development Corporation of Canada was interested in Pakistan for enhancing trade and economic activities. He said Canada-Pakistan Business Council was planning to send a delegation to Pakistan but it was postponed due to the earthquake disaster in Pakistan.

Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed, president FPCCI offered to organize catalogue show of Canadian products in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, which was welcomed by Mr Collins.

He said trade between Canada and Pakistan was not up to the potential and informed FPCCI was collaborating with Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) in sending a trade delegation to Canada.

He hoped it would enhance the trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

He appreciated the relief work carried out by Canadian teams including its armed forces in the earthquake affected area and the donation announced by Canada at the donors conference.

The participants informed Canadian HC about the strict visa and immigration policy of the Canadian government and called for accepting the recommendations of FPCCI, which was issued to bonafide businessmen after careful scrutiny. In reply, Mr Collins said the visa policy of his country was open and transparent while the travel advisory was not mandatory but was only an advice to be cautious in view of the security problems.
