Three of a family die as roof caves in in Multan

MULTAN: Three members of a family including two children died and two others were injured when the roof of their house caved in early on Monday.

Police said the incident took place when Muhammad Ali was renovating his house in Khajji Mohallah in the walled city. The roof caved in suddenly, burying Ali and four other members of his family under the debris.

Bodies of Ali’s mother Ramzan Bibi, 75, his son Arsalan and daughter Hina, 14, were recovered from the debris while Ali and his son Abdul Sattar were injured. APP said that Haram Gate police and Civil Defence officials told reporters that Ali’s house caved in due to the reconstruction of an adjacent house. District Civil Defence officer Shahid Pervez said that after the October 8 earthquake, he had submitted a list of about 250 dangerous buildings in the walled city.

He said 34 of these were termed “very dangerous” and could collapse any moment. He said the district government was studying a plan to demolish and reconstruct these buildings, but the inmates of these houses were not willing to vacate the premises, he added. staff report
