FPCCI to enhance relief contribution

LAHORE: Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI), has said the federation intends to increase their contribution from Rs 55 million to Rs 100 million to earthquake relief.
He was speaking at a press conference at the FPCCI’s regional office here on Monday.
Iftikhar Ali Malik, Jamil Magoon, Azhar Saeed Butt and Aftab Ahmed Vohar were also present. The FPCCI president said that the federation would open six tented schools in earthquake- affected areas and the first would be opened on Nov 26. He further informed that he would inaugurate a school in collaboration with the FPCCI on Nov 26 at Muzaffarbad and invited journalists to the FPCCI Office at Islamabad at 7am to leave for Muzaffarbad for inauguration at 11:30am for inauguration of the school.
Answering a question, he claimed that no relief goods had reached eight villages of Neelum valley up till now.
He said whenever there was an emergency situation in the country, the business community and the media played an important role for which they deserve to be praised by the entire nation.
Giving salient features of the relief activities of FPCCI, Mr Saeed said 4,000 tents, 10,000 blankets, 500 tarpaulines, 1,500 quilts, 500 sweaters, 900 lamps, 500 GI Sheets, 80,000kg rice, 100,000kg flour, 20,000kg sugar, 10,000kg ghee, 6,000 litre milk and 1,000kg tea had been distributed. Another demand for the supply of school bags, textbooks and stationery had been received from the Muzaffarabad Chamber and these things were being arranged.
He said 4,000 socks had been sent from Haripur by Malik Muhammad Farid, 3,000 towels from Lahore by Muzammil Javed, 1,000 Jackets from Gujranwala, 2,000 quilts from Faisalabad and another truckload of 2,000 quilts were expected in a day or two. He praised the relief activities of the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce & Industry and said 3,000 stoves and 1,000 crockery sets would be received from Gujranwala soon. So far the FPCCI had distributed relief goods worth Rs 10.5 million in remote areas of Bagh, Muzaffarbad, Abbaspur, Hattian Balan, Chikar, Battagram and Bunguni.
“We have received donation of one truck of rice from Guard Group and Mehran Group,” he added. The FPCCI president said, in collaboration with Indus Motor Company and its dealership network in the country, Toyota Azad Motors had sent five pickups to take a team of five doctors to Muzaffarbad. Another fleet of five pickups had been sent to Balakot. So far 320,000kg goods had been distributed to the affectees at Alai, Rawlakot, Chikar, Dhirkot and Bagh of 6,000 feet high hilly areas.
We are trying to get the sponsorship of small groups of 3-4 members in UK to donate Rs 300,000-Rs 400,000. We have set a target of Rs 100 million for which the FPCCI would place an advertisement in the UK press.
