Pakistan to take part in Sharjah jewellery show

Staff Report

KARACHI: Entrepreneurs from Pakistan are likely to get 10 percent more orders for their traditional jewellery at the 19th edition of five-day MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show to be held in Sharjah on Nov 15-19.

Muhammad Saeed Qureshi, senior vice chairman of the All Pakistan Gems Merchants and Jewellers Association (APGMJA), told the Daily Times on Wednesday the show was a bi-annual event held under the patronage of Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasmi, crown prince and deputy ruler of Sharjah.

He said Pakistan would be among 225 exhibitors from 25 countries. Most participants would be from India, Russia, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Bahrain, China, Italy, Jordan, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Lebanon, Singapore, Thailand and Turkey.

He said Pakistan’s traditional jewellery such as bangles, stone-studded jewellery and Mughal (Kundan) state-of-the-art jewellery would attract a large number of buyers from the Middle East and other countries at the show.

Mr Qureshi said the show was the Middle East's first jewellery exhibition that would display 2005-06 autumn and winter collection. He said visitors to the show would be treated to most fascinating and wide range of choices in gold and diamond jewellery from Pakistan.

Humayun Ahmad, a senior member of the APGMJA, said people liked diamond and gold jewellery from Pakistan. He said Pakistani exhibitors were likely to get four percent share at the five-day show as they would be displaying better products.
